These are pictures from my trip to the Stone Zoo in Stoneham, MA.
It was a cool early winter day. There were very few people which made it an
especially enjoyable visit. Some animals were off exhibit but quite a few were
available for viewing. There were more animals then people there!
The main shooting challenge was to deal with the enclosures. In the case
of wire mesh, I did my best to focus past it. This worked well when the cage was close
but the animal was a ways away. The other kind was an acrylic sheet. Those tended to
be badly scratched but the scratches usually didn't come out. The other problem with the
acrylic was a green color cast it gave to all the pictures. I did my best to color correct
images with this problem. For instance, the shots of the young jaguars sleeping together
toward the end were all corrected for this. You can see a "correct" image at the end where I took
a shot through the mesh rather then the acrylic.
